After the transfer to SDANF: from your file to the naturalisation decree
Updated 23 October 2026
What is SDANF?
The sous-direction de l’accès à la nationalité française (SDANF) is the Ministry of the Interior department, based in Rezé near Nantes, that reviews files sent by prefectures with their opinion and prepares the decision.
What happens at this stage
- Your file is reviewed at the ministry together with the prefecture’s opinion.
- If the decision is positive, your name is included in a naturalisation decree signed by the minister.
- The decree is published in the Journal officiel. Naturalisation takes effect on the date of signature.
This can last many months, usually without news in between.
Finding your decree
Naturalisation decrees are published in the Journal officiel and can be consulted on Légifrance. Many applicants watch published decrees; the official notification then comes through the prefecture.
After a positive decision
- The prefecture invites you to a ceremony welcoming you into French citizenship.
- You can then apply for a French ID card and passport.
- Minor children listed on the decree become French at the same time.
After a negative decision
Depending on the case: postponement (reapply after the period set), inadmissibility or refusal. You can appeal to the minister within two months, then before the administrative court of Nantes. A lawyer or specialised association can advise you.
How long?
Dossiermap measures “transfer → decision” for each platform once applicants have shared enough dates. Share your dates, including your decree date if you have it.
