French residence permit fees in 2026: tax stamps after the 1 May increase

Updated 29 October 2026

The 2026 Finance Act sharply increased the taxes paid by foreign nationals. The new amounts apply since 1 May 2026. They are paid with an electronic tax stamp (timbre fiscal), bought online on the official tax stamp site, at a tobacconist or at a public finance centre.

The amounts

Procedure Standard rate Reduced rate Before 1 May 2026
First residence card (temporary, multi-year, resident) €350 €150 €225 / €75
Renewal €250 €100 €225 / €75
Duplicate (loss, theft) €350 €150
VLS-TS validation €300 €100 €200 / €50
Provisional residence document €100 no tax
Regularisation fee (entry without a visa) €300, of which €100 non-refundable €200
Naturalisation, reintegration, declaration €255 (€127.50 in French Guiana) €55

The reduced rate covers in particular students, seasonal workers, “job search or business creation” cards, family reunification and au pairs.

Special cases

  • Late renewal, without force majeure or a valid visa: €180 more, on top of the card price.
  • Refugees: resident card free (first issue, duplicate, renewal).
  • Victims of domestic violence or trafficking: free.
  • Algerian nationals: no tax for the 10-year residence certificate.

When to pay?

The stamp is requested when you apply on ANEF (you enter its number) or when you collect the permit, depending on the procedure. Check the exact amount ANEF shows for your situation before buying.

And the wait?

Paying more does not shorten the wait. To see how long your prefecture takes, check the times shared on Dossiermap.
